Re: School Shooting...could be pretty bad
The media in the US is pretty terrible. My US friend is always telling me stuff that turns out to be incorrect. Some of it is bizarre. It appears that Yanks are only good at one thing; making movies. Everything else they pretty much suck at.

People can accept that our country is their perfection without you telling us that we all suck and America sucks in every single post you make. Bleh. Stop being such a douchenozzle.

America believes in freedom of speech, correct? Therefore I am using my freedom of speech. Although people in the US are not actually allowed freedom of speech. But that's another discussion altogether.
But LOL at "douchenozzle". ok.

Re: School Shooting...could be pretty bad
My concern is Algren seems to be using the tragic deaths of the children and teachers in Connecticut as a vehicle to amuse himself and indulge in a bit of anti-Americanism.
Which is low and certainly not what I would expect from a man.

Re: School Shooting...could be pretty bad
It amazes me how many tragedies have to happen before the great and powerful United States of America wake up and do something. That is all I have been expressing. I certainly do not find any of these tragedies amusing. But I do find American pride amusing.

Re: School Shooting...could be pretty bad
Americans are aware of the anxieties and flaws in American society. Don't claim to be an expert as you sit on the other side of the world.
And there is nothing wrong with pride. It is good to have pride in your country, your family, your home, yourself etc., if you can. I hope you do, and I hope you don't judge me or anyone else for it.

I'm certainly not an expert on the US, and I've never claimed to be one.
I think there's a lot wrong with pride. Personal pride is fine, but to be proud of your country purely because it was where you were born is really retarded.

Every country has value, in its art or in its environment or in its history or its in people, etc., and this is where pride is generated.

That's a nice way to put it, you really do have a way with words. All I'm saying that you shouldn't be so proud to be American. Most of the world can see your faults.

But LOL at "douchenozzle". ok. You do not understand what freedom of speech means. It means the government not preventing speech. It has nothing to do with other people, like Libs, exercising her freedom of speech liberties, and pointing out the ignorance of your comments.

Any imposing authority, actually, not just government.

Algren wrote: Any imposing authority, actually, not just government. No, unless what you mean by "imposing authority" is synonymous with "government." An employer, except in some (but not all) cases where the employer is the government, is free to criticize other people's speech to the extent that he/it chooses.

Freedom of speech goes both ways. Also, nowhere does it say there are no consequences for your "speech".

Which is low and certainly not what I would expect from a man. From a woman, though? Joking aside, your post if quite correct. I mean I've been to these boards for a long long time and no one managed to make my head hurt in such a short period of time with their posts as Algren after his second coming.

Apart from his ridiculous taste in movies, Algren seems surprisingly reasonable to me.

Yes. Having stupid opinions does not necessarily make one unreasonable. Other people believe in gods...
