In any event, whether I would or not has absolutely nothing to do with my point, which is "Who cares and what business is it of yours?" There are people who pierce every part of their body and cover themselves with tattoos and do other things to their body that I am also not attracted to. So? The fact that I would not be interested in having sex with those people doesn't mean they shouldn't have the right to do with their bodies whatever makes them happy.

I recall reading how that was an argument against people of different races being allowed to get married. It's still used by some people to argue against gay marriage, too. Or allowing blacks to play baseball, or women to participate in "men's" sports.

Whenever society changes, there is always some bigot who tries to prevent it by claiming that it shouldn't happen because bigots like him will treat these people terribly. Yeah, not a very convincing argument.

The part where there "are standards one must me in order to even call yourself an expert" is what leads me to doubt. Step out of line and you are definitionally not an expert. I.e., if you do not follow what the group states is the consensus then you will be shunned. That seems stifling to me and likely to yield poor results and scientific stagnation in the future.

Do you think a psychologist could state that "a desire to change one's gender through permanent surgical manipulation is indicative of a mental disorder" could work in "respectable" circles? We both know that person would be shunned and ruined outside of such circles.

Same with the psychologist that advocates "conversion therapy" regardless of what you think about it. Interestingly you can change male to female or vice versa via surgery but not gay to straight through psychological therapy.

I am not stating conversion therapy works but for an adult to do it, just like having gender reassignment surgery, is none of my business.

Conversion therapy is a scam and many states have made it illegal already.

But the point remains: There may very well be a reason that people who claim stupid things won't be accepted by the "experts" that better explains why they are not accepted than merely the experts wanting to protect their own theories.
