If you grew up in fundie Evangelical culture (like I did), then that's all the reason in the world to hide your sexuality.

I think the Twitter photo being called out for "looking gay" is because there appears to be some kind of magical level of masculinity one needs to display to be considered straight in our society that you're not quite managing. Veer too much towards pretty and delicate instead of handsome and rugged and you'll very easily earn the "gay" label, even if you really just look young. Full lips and clear skin don't make you gay, guys, wanting to do stuff with another man's penis does. Even if he looks like he'd want to doesn't mean he does.

Well, what people really mean when they say that is just that the person looks feminine. "Gay" means such a lot these days. Not necessarily that they think the person wants to do stuff with another man's penis.

Except that in this case it was literally said that he looks like he's homosexual. Regardless of the term that's used, there's an innate negativity to both of them, since it's directly implied that someone's not living up to some kind of masculinity norm or heterosexual standard because of it.

Perhaps it's more of a personal peeve of mine though, because I got the same thing when I was a teenager (especially early teens) and it sucks to be called out for something when you're still coming to terms with it yourself. I imagine it's not a lot more fun when you're not actually gay. I still hate it when someone makes a remark that suggests I'm not actually a man because I'm gay, like one of my coworkers who's literally acted as if I somehow see things through a female's perspective because I'm gay, which is just stupid.

I love being called "gay" or a "fag" or whatever other insult related to being gay. I also like to play it up. My coworkers here are so conservative. They couldn't even joke about anything. I'm the one that every time I see a billboard with the Chippendales on it, I'm like "damn, gotta get a ticket to that!". I don't even smile. The mystery in their eyes is hilarious.

My family doesn't give a shit what I do. My brother already left the faith, if I did I'm sure they wouldn't be too surprised.
