 Re: Bruce Jenner
Nobody said it was ridiculous. But height is a physical trait. Being a woman, is not.
And again, if you "feel" tall on the inside, then change that about yourself. Get leg implants. Nobody will care. Go ahead.

This is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. This is seriously Algren way of "funny". Ugh. Can we torch this place down?

See, here's the thing about bigots: They never think they're bigots. In their own mind, they've made up elaborate reasons why they aren't that make perfect sense to them and which look completely stupid to everyone else. Sometimes the stupid reason is "God told me to." Sometimes the stupid reason is just "Well, I personally don't like it so therefore everyone should live by my standards." And the sad part is that no amount of logic or reason can change them. And usually if you even try to discuss it with them, they get angry or insulted, walk away, and then claim they have won the debate -- another sign of how deluded they are. They are to be pitied, but fortunately, they are dying off.

Now imagine you had the same feelings but were born as a woman. Would you not take the opportunity, if available, to become who you feel you really are? But she can't ever be an actual, physical girl. Not physically. I have no issue with her thinking she is a girl; it just is not possible to really, truly install female organs into a male.

Not asking you to agree or argue against, just want you to reiterate my point. Devil's Advocate. Your point is that Caitlyn made a brave choice and we should be tolerant and, after all, it doesn't impact us. I may quibble with the bravery element but otherwise am in substantial agreement.

They still have the same brain. One thing to remember is that most trans people don't just feel they're born in the wrong body, but are also some of the most unhappy and broken emotionally people around. Depression and suicide rates are way, way, way higher in trans than for cis people. So you have people who both believe "I am born in the wrong body" and "I am defective and unable to enjoy life". It makes sense that if they believe both these things, they would then believe that perhaps the reason they feel so broken, is that they were born in the wrong body, and that converting is a hail mary pass to try and save themselves. It would appear however though that this is an incorrect assumption and that depression and suicide attempts are as high or higher after sex changes. In the long run if the person who got the sex change hates themselves, they'll just hate themselves for doing it and tell themselves things like "I turned myself into an inhuman monster".

 Re: Bruce Jenner
Who cares ? It's bizarre to me people spend time and energy trying to understand feelings which can largely be explained by "everybody is different".

To the above, I am not questioning the scientific method. Just that we should always be cautioned to recognize observer bias and groupthink.
As for my lack of exposure to the trans community, I suspect my level of exposure is similar to the rest of the population. That is, pretty much none at all due to the extremely small population of trans people in the overall population.

That being said, when an issue is as passionate and complex as this one, I personally think it's everyone's responsibility to educate themselves on all perspectives before engaging in a debate about it. Just my two cents. So basically we shouldn't debate this issue?

 Re: Bruce Jenner
Bruce is and will always be a man. Genetics don't lie. He is a man.
He can finally be "himself/herself" LOLZ! After thousands of dollars of plastic surgery, getting his cheeks and chin shaved off, getting his penis removed, and pounds and pounds of make up...and photoshop he is "himself"
Sorry folks. He is and will always be a man. Just because you "choose" or "think" you were born the wrong gender doesnt mean much. Sure HE can dress how he wants, and get surgeries...whatever but his genetic make up is and will always be a man.

#IllcallyouBruce Totally true. But if she believes she's a woman, it's in her head. It does not really matter what she physically is if that's what she believes.
