This has been blowing up on the Internet over the past day or so. Gurl. Leaving aside the obvious about how this is a terrible thing to tweet, even if she was "just kidding," just how stupid do you have to be to actually tweet it?

I'm more remarking on how stupid she is to have tweeted it in the first place. Leave aside whether it was a joke in the first place or whatever. As someone high up at a large corporation, you can't just tweet offensive shit on Twitter and expect no blowback.

I followed this last night on Twitter. How stupid. It was obviously a joke and she is not some high up person. Fucking ridiculous. Someone decided (Buzzfeed and Gawker) to ruin someone's life. Well, success!

I like that a large contingent of people here hate corporations but are a-ok with stuff like this. IAC can do whatever they want but if they bow to pressure to fire someone over something stupid like this, I hope they go out of business.

Too bad, if she was fired, she probably will be denied birth control for lack of insurance by IAC. Sexist pigs! #war_on_women.

Well it sounds like she was fired or "parted ways" with IAC. That is great. Another win for the internet.

I don't get the joke. She hopes she doesn't get AIDS - meaning she's gonna have lots of sex with Africans and/or share needles with them? Or alternatively, she thinks you catch it like the flu? And that white people are either immune to AIDS, or would never engage in activities where they would get it? Or is it a major fail of a political statement? No part of it is remotely clever.

She says (as joke) that only black people can get AIDS.

Bit of a boring story. Mildly bad-taste comment. Outsize moral outrage on the Internet. Woman's entire career ruined. Forgotten by everyone but her and a few others by Tuesday morning.

Her job is a "Public Relations Executive" Of course she was going to get fired, if it leaves a bad impression on her company and he job relates to that. It isn't as though she was a technician or something to that matter. She probably is too stupid to be a tech.

I guess she won't be going to Africa afterall.

I hope her jokes will find an audience in her future employer.

If she's a government employee, her getting fired would be a suspect of violation of free speech by the government. I could imagine people would speak out for her against government intrusion. But she's a PR person for a private company and her public tweets could be part of her job description. If her opinions are in direct conflict with the company's philosophy or interests, the company is free to dissociate from her. Vice versa, it might be for her best to part way with a company intolerant of her racist jokes.

Like in Paula Deen's case, I'd say let the market decide.
