Post The secret to happiness...
I think the secret to happiness is letting go of desires and expectations and trusting that wherever you go and whatever you do in life, it will be ultimately what’s right.

What do you think the secret to happiness is?

More or less, I agree.

To be happier, people need to care less. What will happen will happen, and there is nothing any of us can do about it, so might as well be fine with it.

Oh no. That is the opposite of happiness. After watching porn and cumming, you feel low. Now if you had said sex...

Expectations is a big part, yes.

Desires are what they are. They're primal.

Having fun. The problem is the line gets blurry, what once was honest fun no longer is for some people but they feel they should keep doing it to avoid losing a part of themselves. Or they've convinced themselves something's fun when it's not or never was, they can just no longer find their honest emotional reactions underneath the pressure and guilt they put on themselves to live up to someone else's expectations. Or their ego has taken the wheel. One man golfs because he has fun, another golfs to prove he's better than the people's he's playing with, which may not have anything to do with fun, or maybe it did once but doesn't anymore

Should have stopped at "having fun". That I can agree with. Stop analyzing too much. So many people I know - I think it is something particular to our age AND our generation - keep looking for "something more" in life or "finding themselves" or "finding meaning in what they do with their lives". Pfft. I just enjoy the ride.

Good way to look at it. Enjoy the ride cause there won’t be another one.

The lesson of Inside Out - If you want to be happy you have to be open to being sad. If you want to be loved you have to be open to being hated. If you want to be surprised in a positive way you have to be open to being disappointed. The opposite has to be option or else neither works.

Well, yeah, obviously...but isn't that quite an obvious platitude?

Sounds like a good description of a cuck. Be more of a man; assert your will into the world. Whatever meaning presents itself, is a projection of your own making. Would God hamper your growth by giving out silver platters? I'm not religious, but assuming he exists, I'd guess he has more respect for you than that.

Resigning yourself to a life where you're left looking for meaning in whatever you end up with, is a mid-life crisis in the making.

Is there anyone [not in the bible] you look up to as a role model? Sounds like you could do with an alpha.

Quote:
What do you think the secret to happiness is?

Understand that happiness isn't an end goal, there is no secret, and that ends aren't ends when you finally reach them.

Let go of your ego.

Get involved with Aristotle, whose voluminous philosophy on the subject can be largely boiled down to, "Happiness relies on ourselves".

Maintain a high priority on family connections.

Recognise that your body is an instrument: the stronger and healthier and more enduring that you make it, the better you'll feel by default.

Limit the hand; fuck as much as is humanly possible.

Positive suffering (like a triathlon) = positive willpower growth = greater sense of achievement = greater sense of self-worth. (See: David Goggins).

Commit to a minimum 45 minutes of exercise a day.

Limit social media.

Learn how to keep your attention in the present moment by practicing mindfulness - don't dwell on things out of your control.

Ask yourself the Alan Watts question: “What would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life?"

Whatever your answer to that question is, will be the closest thing to a happiness-hack you're likely to find. Positive life habits, like the ones mentioned, are mostly just enablers - having a suitable purpose in life is the main thing.

I think you misunderstand.

You still try for what you want, but if it doesn't work out, you just don't allow yourself to get discouraged. You just accept it is not the path your life will follow and you find some other path.

Yeah, not seeing that implied in your initial philosophy sorry bra. How do you try for what you want, if you've let go of your desires? Makes no sense; there's not even a suggestion to try in there. You're just making it up as you go along. ;)

What I said was also based on your relationship sagas --- your marginalised outlook on happiness isn't surprising, it's what your experience has taught you so far; but I guarantee there's a huge difference when you place more attention on the post-failure "accepting whatever happens" than the pre-success "taking control of your own destiny".

In archetypal terms, it's this:

Compared to this:

That's why they're archetypes.

You'd really say no to the second one?

So how if whatever you do puts you in hell?

You were giving a more philosophical approach in the first post. Obviously your secret to "Happiness" involves more rules. It's certainly not "whatever" and "wherever" simplicity. I'm just saying come up with something better if your going to preach.

Mine is patience. And knowing Happiness is the farthest of dreams, and no one ever reaches. Happiness should honestly be a synonym for Heaven.

I had something vulgar but I won't say it. You are a child and still have not felt the world attack you. (KJ is like a pin prick)

If you're a guy? Lifting.

If you're a girl? Having kids first, then focusing on the career.
