Re: World Cup 2014
You know what I am also happy about? We were actualyl the best team this World Cup. No contest there. Back in 2002, when we lost against Brazil, we were not the best team. Probably not even the second-best team. We played our best game in the final, when we lost. Before that we generally had shitty opponents. We were better 2006 and 2010, but still weren't the best tem (2010 is a close call, though). But this year, we were the best time by a distance. Argentina simply didn't deserve it. They couldn't score a goal during 240 minutes of playtime, just like the Netherlands couldn't before them. This is not how you deserve being a World Cup winner.

Totally agree. Germany were fantastic and they thoroughly deserved it. Well done to that team.

Messi is a god.
Congrats to Germany, I guess. Whatever. Maybe one day you'll win a World War.

So total viewership for the final in the US is 26.5m, 17.3m from ABC and 9.2m from Univision.

Russia will spend a ridiculous amount of money in 2018. $20 billion. Brazil spend $14B and South Africa $3.9B

Re: World Cup 2014
It all depends if they need to build stadiums for it. I thought that Brazil wouldn't have to build stadiums for it since they are a footballing country, but I guess they did.

Re: World Cup 2014
Well, yeah, I expected more building in Russia since it's pretty much a dead country. But wow. Lots of building going on for these World Cups. I wonder if they will remain afterwards. Better to hold World Cups in Europe where there are already loads of stadiums. Then again, FIFA are doing their bit to ensure country development.

I find that at the World Cup, there could be a upset here and there all the way through quarterfinals, but almost always the best team of the tournament ends up winning. 2006 is really the only one I could legitimately argue France may be the more deserving team given the difficult path they navigated through the knockout rounds, but even there their group stage performance was less than inspired. For all other years since I started watching in 1986, the best team won.
