It's a time warp!

As much as I'm happy for Nadal finally back, I want Roger to get that slam. He's been competing so hard since his last win losing a few finals. I know we'll get a nice teary speech if he wins.

Great final to look forward to. Hope Federer can get the win too!

Congrats to the GOAT for earning Major #18.

This just cements it yet again. No question. I also think he will have the drive to try and get to #20. He's still highly motivated. Still has the skills. He's amazing to watch play.

Quote:
Federer is just the fourth person in the Open era to defeat four top-10 seeds in a single Slam en route to the title, defeating Tomas Berdych, Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka in addition to Nadal.

The other three are Mats Wilander (1982 French Open), Bjorn Borg (1978 French Open) and Guillermo Vilas (1977 French Open).

I do think Nadal will probably win the French this year. He definitely could have won the match today. It was that close in the final set.

I only watched the last 3 games, but at that point it was tense with some great tennis still that included the longest rally of the game. Glad for Roger to get #18.

Serena doing Sharapova a favor by getting preggers right before her comeback

A shame Sharapova wasn't allowed entry to the French. Is it even worth watching this year? Venus is playing but I'm not optimistic. Hopefully she can go far but it's pretty much anyone's slam for the taking.

Fed skipping this is smart. Focus his energy on the one he can win.

So you do have balls! Surprised to see you support a male anything. Thought you would be on the Serena train. Female and black! and probably a lesbian. ;)

Lesbian? Stfu.

I'm very disappointed Venus tanked but I loved the effort getting there. Garbine was unbreakable...literally. Amazing how 2 points just turned the whole thing around.

But in other news...

The gah gah Greatest of all TIMES won his 19th slam. It's unreal. I seriously think he will get 20 in the next 2 years and call it quits. Amazing shape, amazing tennis. I'm just glad I got to see the best female and male tennis players in my lifetime.

Zverev is now tied for the most titles this year, looks to be on his way to being the new guy

Looks like Nadal is getting #16. Probably get #17 next year at the French. Can he catch Fed...I mean if he does that. Idk.

As far as the ladies, I'm rooting for Sloan but I'm thinking Keys just because she has the bigger serve and plays with a lot more risk.

Wow. Sloan Stephen's just did a dictionary defining performance of being "in the zone" if ever. Amazing

What the hell is Evert getting all SJW on the end here. Um, the Williams sisters did this like 14 years ago. Black girls could dream back then too. Shute...gd

So Nadal is the one to beat again. FUCK YES. My man.

And it is glorious that Nadal and Federer are #1 and #2 again. Federer won the Australian and Wimbledon, and Nadal won the French and US. It's just lovely to be back to this stage that the sport was at in 2008 and 09. So glad that Djokovic and Murray aren't dominating like it was expected.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2018 UPDATE

I know not many are following this. I know I haven't watched one second of it but that's mainly due to no cable and no time.

Quote:
Defending champion Federer moved to within one win of a 20th Grand Slam singles title on Friday night when Hyeon Chung retired in the second set of their Australian Open semifinal.

After 1 hour and 2 minutes with the roof closed on Rod Laver Arena, he's now 7-7. (He's well above the 50-50 mark at the other majors -- 11-1 at Wimbledon, 7-3 at the U.S. Open and 5-2 at Roland Garros.)

No. 1 Simona Halep, No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki reach Australian Open final

I'll be rooting for Fed of course to reach magic #20 and Wozniacki to win her 1st Slam since she's a Serena BFF.

You've got 1 wish! Wozniacki wins her first slam. Much deserved.

A shame Nadal retired but hopefully Fed get to 20. It's going to be very hot tomorrow so will be interesting.

Roger cements his status as GOAT. I don’t wanna hear any nonsense. This man is a mutant. He’s doing what Serena has been doing and for a man it’s even more insane.

#20

WOW

11 women have 8+ Grand Slam titles.
13 men have 8+ Grand Slam titles.

Hmm I wonder which is more impressive...

Roger has 20 in 72 appearances, Serena has 23 in 66.

Both are impressive. And both are different.

Post subject:  Re: The Tennis Thread

Roger's is easily more impressive even though I loves me Serena at the same time. Roger's is more impressive simply due to the additional amount of playing time he's had to do to win those titles. It's probably Hundreds if not Thousands of more hours over the course of each person's career. Also, Roger has been playing at a time where he's had to get past two of the greatest players of the modern era in Nadal and Djokovic. Serena has faced many many good players but idk if you can call any of her opponents in her specific era great in terms of when she was winning all her slams especially in the latter part of her career.

Post subject:  Re: The Tennis Thread

Of course Federer's is more impressive. Anyone who knows anything about tennis knows the women's game has always been far weaker than the men's. I love it that Serena has won so much, but just like with Navratilova, the women's game is able to have one very, very strong competitor that dominates, whereas the men's game has multiple, which makes it much, much, much harder to win 20 titles. I don't buy nghtvsn's argument of the men playing more time, and therefore it is more impressive. Men are physically stronger. And you practice for this, year in year out, by which point it becomes a non-factor to a tennis player by the time they reach 17 years old.
