Russia and CIS: July 21-24, Results

The first place kept the eighth film in the Harry Potter series. Deathly Hallows: Part II took on 64% less than its first weekend, adding another $5.53M. The fall was stronger than the first Deathly Hallows (-58%) but less than Half-Blood Prince (-68%), also was released in the summer. Now blockbuster has $29.20M. This is the fourth result of this year.

Zookeeper (domestic title - "My boyfriend from the Zoo"), gave a great start for a comedy with little-known actors in Russia, taking $2.09M on 531 screens. Domestic division of Sony once again demonstrated its ability to wring the maximum from genre tapes (Just Go with It, Bad Teacher). Comedy is not only positioned itself as a family film with talking animals (Furry Vengeance, Alvin and the Chipmunks), but with more romance. In addition, the film was the main new release of the week and had at least some advertising. Similar figures had the comedy with Jim Carrey Mr. Popper's Penguins ($2.03M).

Melodrama Larry Crown was much less attractive to younger audiences, having started from fifth place with $0.87M on 427 screens. The genre is not so cash, as comedy. Except two aging stars (Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks), the film could not anything to brag about. This year's melodrama Last Night and How Do You Know? took $0.70M and $0.74M, respectively, but on a much smaller number of screens.

The French thriller Derriere les murs (domestic title - "Nightmare behind the wall") was released in 3D on 269 screens, earning only $0.44M, and repeated undistinguished achievement Shelter ($0.38M, 231 screens) and The Ward ($0.39M, 215 screens). But even this is more than brought native France ($0.11M).

In the list of highest-grossing films Transformers: Dark of the Moon rose to sixth place with $43.56M, showing excellent endurance.
