After a weekend of 4th of July Fireworks and Explosions, will audiences be ready to laugh again.  The two new comedies opening hope so.

Look out for the Horrible Boss.  He will coming in 3040 offices today, mostly giving people pink slips.  The buzz keeps getting better as the release date got closer.  The star power is good, the trailers have been funny too, but most of all, the premise is very relatable.  Seriously, who doesn't want to kill our bad boss, I would if I had the license to kill.  Joking aside, the trailers have done a good job building up it's premise, and having a self-explanatory title helps it's cause too.  The great reviews this movie is getting will help get the more skeptical adults to buy tickets for this.  With all these positives, I can't see this movie not get a pta in 5-digit territory.  If Bad Teacher can do it, so can this.

Zookeeper, aka Paul Blart 2, will run wild in 3482 theaters.  As Mr. Popper's Penguin's performance tells us, are audiences getting sick of animal comedies.  Well, at least these animals talk.  Having a star studded cast helps it's cause.  The premise is a bit too Dr. Doolittle like, but what kid can't resist Kevin James talking too animals.  At least they don't care what critics say.  Still, with decent marketing, I see a solid mid 6k pta for this.

With better WOM, Transformers 3 will have a better hold than the second one.  Having no competition doesn't hurt either.  Cars 2 will begin to stabilize with more stable midweek numbers, at least until next weekend comes.  Bad Teacher would have stabilized, but it has a new and better competitor in the bad boss department.  Larry Crowne will be hurt by it's lukewarm response from audiences.  Super 8 will hold on for at least one more weekend.  Monte Carlo flopped last weekend, maybe because people realized that Herbie was not in the movie.  The sophomore weekends of these movies are always tricky to predict.  Being a mid-summer release, these movies tend either slightly increase from Thursday to Friday, and not increase at all.  I see the same for this, with a scant increase on Friday, but with a better IM.  Mr. Poppers has new competitors, and a theater loss to deal with.  The theater loss will be even a bigger blow on Green Lantern.  This is the Scottie signing out...
