Hollywood had it's worst Golden Week in History (due to totally ignoring the week altogether!), with only a single release making the Top 10, but local films benefited greatly from the beginning of the much needed vacation period for the Japanese people.

Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence returns to first place in both admissions and gross, increasing by 20% over last weekend.

The 15th film in the franchise was easily the family favorite this Holiday Weekend, and after 16 days in release has attracted 1,559,642 admissions for 1,824,438,200 yen ($22.5 million).

And while it experienced a slighty bigger drop than expected it's second weekend, Gantz Part II: Perfect Answer has brought in 1,123,687 moviegoers for a 9 day gross of 1,374,323,100 yen ($17 million).

Like Detective Conan, Crayon Shin-chan: The Golden Spy Mission was also a favorite this weekend, increasing by 22%, to remain in third place.

The Cicada's Eighth Day, starring Inoue Mao and Nagasaku Hiromi, was the top opener this weekend debuting on 224 screens.

The film mobilized 142,990 people for the 2-Day weekend to gross an estimated 155,570,900 yen ($2 million).  The 3-Day tally comes in at 196,130 admissions and an estimated 221,254,000 yen ($2.75 million).

And the 3D anime film, Tofu Kozo (or Bean Boy), was the other newcomer this weekend opening in seventh place.  No figures have been released for this one.
