Russia and CIS: Prediction on April 21-24

Animated film Rio appears to retain first place and on the third weekend. But repertoire of movie theaters will be added 5 new titles.

"Svadba po obmenu" (Wedding of the exchange) (http://kino-n-sport.ru/repository/calendar/film/filmid/745) is the last Russian romantic comedy before the summer blockbuster season. It debuts on 581 screens. Distributor Central Partnership renders strong advertising support. This includes tv-spots on the federal channels, outdoor ads in major cities, trailers in theaters since last year. The film could up to second place with $2.11M. The budget is $2 million.

Farrelly Brothers movie Hall Pass (domestic title - "Unmarried Week") goes on 556 screens. Comedy about two dunces, receiving a week off from marriage, attract primarily male audience. Hangover took $1.49M on 340 screens, Couples Retreat - $1.62M on 297.  But the per-theater average will be smaller. Ads is rather weak, and the cast is remarkable only Owen Wilson. But the total amount should be at the level.

The historical melodrama Water for Elephants begins a world premiere on 355 screens. The main attraction is the star of Twilight Robert Pattinson, who was successful last year the film Remember Me ($1.83M, 390 screens). Yet we can remember The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus ($1.55M, 289 screens) and look forward to $1.40M.

In contrast to the romantic tapes two scary movie come in, but which would be difficult to assert themselves after Astral and Scream 4. The Canadian-Italian thriller Hidden never declared except Russia . The basic bet is made on the format 3D. Focusing on last year's The Hole in 3D ($0.61M, 300 screenss), we assume about $0.74M. An independent American thriller Shelter has already managed to get out on DVD in some countries and settled on torrent sites. A good cast (Julianne Moore, Jonathan Rhys Meyers), hardly able to pull the film more than $0.49M.

What was the comparison that you used between 'Water for Elephants' and 'Dr. Parnassus'? I don't remember Pattison being in the later?

Certainly Pattinson didn't play The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, but in both films there was a romanticism with buffoonery and acting elements.
