Michael Shannon to play General Zod

Superman finds its villan!

Michael Shannon has been cast to play the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot.  Shannon is best known for roles in Revolutionary Road, and more recently, Boardwalk Empire.

Shannon will join a cast that includes: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner. According to Snyder: Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't.

The film is tentatively slated for a December 2012 release.

I'm Ron Burgundy. You stay classy, WoKJ.

I like this guy, he emotes well in Boardwalk Empire as a oft disgusted and annoyed federal investigator. Hopefully Zod will give him a chance to show some more range.

I can't stand him in BE, but I guess that's a good thing. His character makes me want to chew nails.

Poor dude'll always be typecast as villains and nutcases, even though I'm confident he, with his tremendous, Oscar-nominated talent, could play almost any role.

Can't deny this is good casting, though. He does creepy and intimidating so well, so should be an absolutely perfect villain. His work in Revolutionary Road actually reminded me a lot of Heath Ledger's Joker.

Eh. I can't see him as Zod. Though I really don't care about new Superman. It's hard to get excited when you have Snyder at helm...

Snyder's had some missteps but i'm sure the new reboot will be better than Singer's stab.

I absolutely loved Superman Returns. Sometimes I think I'm the only one, lol. I dug how it was gentle and stately and a sentimental nod to Donner's films. Thought Routh and Spacey were perfectly cast (Bosworth less so, but not a deal-breaker).

Liked Routh ... Spacey did his best, but was such a boring villain. The movie as a whole was boring, not terrible as many make it out to be, but not good either.

He was freaking awsome & creepy as hell in Broadwalk Empire. Hopefully he gives the character of Zod a new twist.

I loved him in BUG. (Hope this enters me in the Narnia contest)
